So, the other day, I read this really awful poem about feelings where all the most clichéd words rhymed and shiz. Then I found an old poem I'd written when I was about thirteen and - WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT? - they were almost identical!

Is there some kind of secret template embedded within all of our genetic material, commanding us to rhyme "light" with "fight", and so on and so forth, in moments of general angst and alienation?

Whoa, guys. I pretty much entirely felt like that guy at the end of Planet Of The Apes.

("Have you guessed the name of Billy's planet? It was Earth. Don't date robots!")

Okay here we go: I took this meme from Michelle and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try and force music onto people.

AND, oh yeah! And! I got my discount finally so I'm going to Oxford Circus and I'm just gonna go fucking nuts.

O.

It's going to be So Cool.
I'm going to be So Cool.

I can't wait, can you? No, me neither.

I'm also going to Rock Werchter in Belgium in July and I am getting increasingly excited about that, too. Radiohead! Beck! Neil Young! Everyone! Belgium! EEeeee.

Okay - this thing I got off Michelle.

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

I got "H" for haddock and Hoobastank, but came up with these instead:
(Oh, I'm also posting two versions of songs in a couple of cases because both versions have about 60 cool points each!)

UNO!
Heart It Races (Architecture In Helsinki)
Heart It Races (Dr. Dog cover of Architecture In Helsinki)

~ Download this song if you like happy music that isn't annoying, but closer to the sound of people who really like making music with their friends. I won't put lyrics on this because I reckon the lyrics are, for the most part, not overly deep.

If possible, watch the clip of Architecture In Helsinki performing this song on a residential estate in France for La Blogotheque. Marvel as they round up a rather small crowd to sing along! Gasp as they invade the homes of the residents in order to lean out of various windows and conduct their choir in the courtyard below! Love me for my alliteration!

DOS!
He War (Cat Power)

"I never meant to be the needle that broke your back / You were here, you were here, you were here - don't look back."
~ Download this song if you like Cat Power of any of the ladies who kind of run in the same veins, such as Martha Wainwright, PJ Harvey, Feist, etc. Not that she's necessarily loads like any of them, but she's got an awesome voice and more than that behind it. (Not physically, I mean that in a Whoa-Metaphorical way. If you require further details, I will write you a poem about my feelings.)

TRES!
Happy Birthday (Sufjan Stevens)
"I'm happy, I'm happy / Your birthday brings a pardoning"

~ Download this song. This is some kind of oddly placed, lo-fi little song which rattles and resounds in a way that makes you feel like if Sufjan actually played this to you on your birthday, you wouldn't know whether to go and cry in a corner or just give him a big ol' hug. I bet he's royally fucked up some birthdays in his time.

CUATRO!
Heart Of Gold (Neil Young)
"I've been a miner for a heart of gold."

~ Download this song if you reckon you could've had an entirely excellent time living as a part of an earlier generation. There's a thing about music like this, when it was all thought-out, meaningful and yet somehow effortless at the same time. Entirely excellent.

CINCO!
Heartbeats (The Knife)
Heartbeats (José González cover of The Knife)
"And you / Kept us awake with wolves teeth / Sharing different heartbeats in one night."

~ You Must hear The Knife's version of this song if you already have the José González one. You Must hear the José González version if you already have The Knife one. You might not like the other one, but it's important to hear them both just in case you turn out to love them both for being two excellent, rather different versions of one very good song.

======

That's it, then.

I hope you are all well.
