I just saw American Psycho, and mang was it a trip. They really pulled off the disgruntled, hallucinagenic, fucked up effect well--though it still can't top Fight Club on that front. I'm not sure if I liked the movie very much, but there were some moments that were pure comedy gold--like when he was about to kill Luis, but couldn't go through with it because Luis started coming onto him, and he was too disgusted. That face was priceless.
Patrick Bateman is a sad sad pathetic little man, but I admit it was awefully fun to watch him finally drop the mask and let loose while he killed people. Christian Bale is an awesome actor<3 He pulled it off so well. And guh, he looks so good in a suit with black leather gloves<3
He's the kind of human that Crowley's trying to be I think; not the crazy, psychotic serial killer part, but the sucessful, handsome, good body, wealthy, in control part. So does that mean that Crowley is (trying to be) a yuppie??? o3o
I admit that I still don't quite understand what the movie is trying to tell me, but I understand that social rage it's talking about. What I find most interesting is that this movie was made just eight years ago, but it already seems like nothing in terms of violence when compared to today's torture porn flics.
I went and joined okcupid.com for fun--but gah it makes me nervous! I really dislike releasing private info out onto the net...but I put my picture up on there. A blurry one. Oh well :0 I'll prolly forget about it by the time the semester starts.
Also been seething over the fact that I got a B+ in sculpture class. What. The. FUCK. I spent CRAZY AMOUNT of time in it (compared to a bunch of other people), even in the days before an ochem midterm! And busted up my arms carrying a project over to class. Ugh. Teacher was new, here for his first semester, and a modernist who didn't like representationalism. He also basically told me at a grade checkup session once that he didn't like my style...but at least he felt bad about that (kept acting real friendly towards me after that). Didn't stop'm from giving me a lower grade though, it seems. :/ Bah.
I'm not sure how valid grading on ideas rather than execution is in art. Different people want to express different things in art--who are we to force them to go one way or another?
p.s. I think that the
Robert Bateman sketchbooks are the best things ever<3 Check'm out guys!
