So. This guy I know. We'll call him... "Jeff" - for his protection and mine. We haven't known each other for very long, but we talk every so often - mostly about his relationship and how dysfunctional it is. So today, he calls me and says as of two hours prior to his calling me, he's single. I ask all the standard questions: "Why?" "What'd you say?" "How'd she take it"... blah blah blah. Then he asks me how to get to my house because when he gets off of work, he wants to come hang out because he needs someone to talk to.
Oh, sidenote: Rob is out of town until Thursday. And Jeff knows this.
I make him promise that he really only wants to talk and there isn't something else going on here. He promises. I then inform him that I had planned on doing Chinese Takeout and Chick Flicks by myself tonight, but he is more than welcome to come as long as he's okay with that. He reacts weirdly excited about the Chick Flicks and asks me to pick up some General Tso's for him. I let Rob know what's going on, and then call my friend from BLS, Amanda, to see if she would like to join in on the festivities. I figured that since it was no longer alone time, I might as well ask a couple of people if they want to hang out. Plus, I'd rather not be alone with a guy I hardly know when Rob is not even in the same state.
I pick up some drinks, Chinese, and a couple movies - Because I Said So & Georgia Rule to be exact. Amanda arrives at 8:00, the other people I asked didn't respond to my text messages, and Jeff is supposed to be getting off of work - which is 10 minutes from my place - at 9:00. Amanda and I eat some food and start Because I Said So.
Around 10:30, halfway through our movie, Jeff calls to tell me that he can't find my apartment. I had already been annoyed because I thought he wasn't going to show up after I bought him food and everything. So I told him that I had just been bitching to Amanda about him. The conversation then goes as follows:
Jeff: Well I had to go home and shower and change and... AMANDA? Who's Amanda?
Me: A friend I used to work with, I invited her over, too.
Jeff: I thought it was just going to be the two of us.
Me: So? I wanted to hang out with Amanda, too.
Jeff: Oh... whatever... where is this place? I can't find it.
Me: ::gives him directions::
Jeff: Well... whatever... you said you were having Chinese and Chick Flicks with yourself. I thought it was going to be us.
Me: It's one other person. What difference does it make? You don't have to come, but your General Tso's is waiting for you.
Jeff: I'm not hungry anymore... whatever... if I can't find this place, I'm going home...
Me: Okay.
Jeff: Whatever... bye...
Annnd... he never shows up.
This made me extremely grateful for two people.
1) Amanda. Because not only do I love her, but if she had not been able to hang out tonight, who knows what may have happened.
2) Rob. I have always known that I am lucky to have him, but it's things like this that make me realize even more how amazing he is. I am so glad that I am done dating. It just seems that 98% of the guys out there are scum with one thing on their mind.
And yeah. Jeff just called me.
And I did not answer. Ha.
