A/N: Happy Birthday, Torina! I hope you appreciate me ruining my rep as the Queen of Darkness and Angst in order to write this for you. You know I love you, sweetheart. *hugs*
A/N 2: I’m not good at writing sweetness and light, so I didn’t really get any inspiration from Torina’s prompts. Luckily, I found
this amazing website. This ficlet is based on it. XD
"Severus, come look at this!"
Harry's enthusiasm was clear in his raised voice, and Severus mentally snorted as he looked up from a book to find Harry absorbed, once again, in his laptop computer. Severus understood his fascination with the internet; he often 'surfed' for hours, researching various areas of interests and communicating with Muggles who shared those same interests.
But Harry always found the oddest things on the internet. Lolcats, for example. And he took great delight in tormenting Severus with his discoveries. Well, whatever it was, it couldn't be worse than some of the videos Harry had shown him on youtube last night. Sighing, Severus put down his book and walked over to stand behind Harry, looking over his shoulder.
"It's called Love Gives Me Hope, LGMH. It's just short stories, but they’re brilliant. Listen, here's one about an elderly couple. The man turned to his wife and said, 'Jane, we did it. We grew old together.' And the person who overheard that wrote in saying their love gave them hope."
Neither of them expressed their emotions very well-or often-but hearing the reverence in Harry's tone as he read countless stories about remarkable love and hope touched Severus. Grabbing Harry's hands, he pulled him up out of his seat, ignoring his protests. He could give this to Harry. Sitting down at the laptop, Severus clicked a link and started pecking at the keyboard.
I made a horrible decision in my youth, one that my dearest friend paid for with her life.
I vowed to try and right that wrong. I vowed to protect her son.
I never expected to love him. And I certainly didn't expect him to return that love.
He is the finest man I've ever known and his love gives me hope.
