Prompt: Hysterical, hysteria
Pain is your entire reality when you regain consciousness-everything hurts. The sticky heat of fresh blood slowly congeals over days-old crusty scabs, itching and stinging. Lightning zaps across your nerves, over-sensitized from being cursed repeatedly.
A sharp slap across the face shifts your focus, and you glare up at your captor. Snape’s black eyes stare directly into yours, penetrating through the wall of pain. You can't shield your mind from him-you don't even try-it’s your only form of communication.
He insults you, humiliates you, crowds into your personal space menacingly for the sake of the Death Eater audience. The silent promises, not much longer, hold on, barely register. He can't apologize, or pull his punches, and every move is designed to push you past your limits.
But you know it could be-would be-much worse if the others were to get a hold of you. He is not merciful, but neither does he relish his cruelty; he does what he has to, just as you do. You respect that, but it’s been over a week of constant torture-physical and mental.
And today you break.
Uncontrollable laughter pours from your mouth. The echoes bounce off the stone walls and reverberate through you, stealing your breath. You can hear him searching, yelling through your hysteria, Potter, pull it together!
I can’t, too much, help me, you cry, a mindless litany of pain.
His thoughts merge with yours like never before, slow and sweet like dripping honey, steadying you. You’re calm now, buffered by the mind of your tormentor. You answer his raised eyebrow with a sneer, spitting in his face.
Well done, Potter.
You try to say thank you, but the connection breaks when you close your eyes as the Cruciatus curse hits you.
You scream instead.
