Mike Brodie/The Polaroid Kidd

I know I've posted about Coilhouse here before, but this past weekend they posted a really interesting selection of photographs by Mike Brodie (also known as the Polaroid Kidd) that I thought I would post about here since not all of you follow Coilhouse.

Thanks for the perspective on the convergence. I've been curious about it for a couple of years now, but have never attended one. Honestly, the big draw for me would be workshops, but I've had some bad workshop experiences in the past (mainly at zine gatherings & queer conferences), so I always get a little nervous about attending them (normally the more excited I am about a workshop's title, the more wary I am of attending because I worry about it being "ruined" for me somehow).

But if you've met a thousand traveler kids and their dogs, discovered 90% of the anarchist scene doesn't read, and had a finger waved at you for mocking socio-political figureheads like Andrea Dworkin - this event is not for you!

This is exactly what I needed to hear! Andrea Dworkin is actually sort of a pet peeve of mine. Ever since I read Heartbreak: The Political Memoir of a Feminist Militant, I haven't been able to deal with people who namedrop her & wholeheartedly embrace her as the consummate feminist spokesperson.

If you end up going, I hope that you have a good time & if you pass through Cleveland on the way back, maybe we could meet up somewhere.

Sending things out to distros is always a tough call for me, especially now. The majority of the distros that I used to work with have shut down. The zines I just put out kind of toed the line between perzines/short story collections and I've been at a loss as to where to send them. In the past I've had good experiences working with Parcell Press. Taylor keeps a really varied stock at his distro & I know he's distro'd lit type zines in the past. Black Light Diner also accepts fiction & so does Click Clack (though Nicole specifies that she'll have stricter criteria for the fiction zines that she distributes). Honestly, it's really tough to get a lit zine distributed, people really seem to look down on them for some reason. Good luck to Ben!

My friends and I have ruffled QUITE a few feathers at those things. What does it mean when your ideas are too radical for the "radicals?" UH OH CRIMETHINC SPLINTER GROUP!!!!

This isn't exactly related and I'm not sure how abreast you keep of these things, but did you read about Crimethinc purging all traveler kids?

Thanks for the recommendations, and I will definitely stop for a hangz if I go and pass through Cleveland along the way!

Weirdly, I think that article did quite a bit to restore my often tenuous faith in CrimethInc. I haven't read a whole lot of their literature (I have Days of War, Nights of Love and An Anarchist Cookbook & I lost my copy of Off the Map by loaning it to someone), but while I often enjoy what I read, I tend to get frustrated with most of the radical types I meet for reasons that are hard for me to pin down logically. Maybe I am just a snob? (I hope this is not the case.)

Anyway, thanks for linking me to that because I hardly keep up with that kind of stuff & need to get more with it.

I hate most people that self identify as "radicals" - though largely because I'm an asshole.
