Sunday Sundries - 32

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a nice Sunday. So far mine has been spent snacking on donuts, drinking hot tea, and watching the series 3 premiere of Skins (a great guilty pleasure of mine.)

1. Lauren Nassef's Drawing a Day Blog -- I love the illustrations on Lauren's blog. They have an incompleteness about them & spare splashes of color that I find totally fascinating. Some of my recent favorites are here and here.

2. Tilt shift photography is a technique in which the photographer manipulates the camera in order to make life size objects seem like tiny models. Smashing Magazine has a neat feature on 50 great examples of tilt shift photography.

3. Valentine's Day will be here in a few weeks &, of course, Etsy has some delightful picks for those of you in need of valentines. Here are some of my favorites: Heidi Burton's "I Heart You" Postcard, Wool and Water's Valentine Paper Doll, Hearts and Anchors' "Deerest Valentine", Argyle Whale's "Wii Belong Together" Valentine, and, for those of you with extreme amounts of disposable income, Rob Ryan's "These Bells Will Peal".

4. Mikishmink is an Etsy shop that specializes in bags and wallets made from brilliantly patterned Japanese fabrics. I love the fabrics for the bear bear bear handbag and the colorful numbers handbag.

5. One of my favorite movies is The House of Yes (1997), an adaptation of Wendy MacLeod's play of the same name. The House of Yes can be hard to watch at times, with dialogue that is funny, sad, and brutal all at once. the entire film takes place over the course of 2 days and has a cast of 5. Telling the story of a troubled Washington, D.C. family on Thanksgiving weekend, the film touches on issues of class, normalcy, mental illness, and sexual awakening (the film contains material regarding incestuous relationships that might be triggering for some.)

Here's a clip --

6. Via hostile17girl on my f-list, 16 films without which Wes Anderson could not exist, a great article with embedded YouTube clips for each film.
