so hms went to six flags today, and i got to go for free as a chaperone. lemme tell ya, if dawn hadn't been there, chaperoning woulda SUCKED because NONE of the other teachers rode any rides! they sat in their little pavilions and drank soda. not dawn and me. hell no. we rode every ride with the kiddos. and had a freaking blast.
we rode batman twice (NO line the second time; we literally walked right onto the coaster), screaming eagle, the log flume twice, mr. freeze, and my personal favorite, scooby doo's ghostblasters. but i now have a new favorite, ladies and gentlemen. six flags has this new, off the chain ride called superman. OH MY GOD. i've never seen a ride like it. it's crazy.
it's the highest structure in the entire park, something like 230 feet. there are six "cars" each with four people sitting in a line. the "cars" encircle this 230 feet tubular structure, facing outward. every car is raised to the top, speeding up a bit as it goes. finally, you're sitting at the top, and you can see the ENTIRE park. i mean, you're looking down at roller coasters and you can see as far as the highway. it was awesome. (this is when dawn turned to me and said, "i hate you" because i made her ride it. lol)
then, one by one, the cars freefall to the bottom. it's freaky, because you don't know when your car will go, and we ended up being last, so we heard these noises and then screams. then all of a sudden, you're dropped at 60 miles per hour. and your stomach is still 230 feet in the air, but you're screaming the entire trip down. i didn't do that justice. lemme paste from the website, sixflags.com
"SUPERMAN Tower of Power, is an extreme free fall ride that will take thrill seekers’ breath away! SUPERMAN Tower of Power will test even nerves of steel as riders are slowly carried up to the top of the 230-ft tower while seated four across in ski-lift style chairs that face outward leaving their feet dangling in the open air. With a bird’s eye view of the park from this towering mass of steel, guests are suspended for several seconds of gut wrenching, muscle tensing anticipation before the impending drop, a 23-story plunge at speeds in excess of 60-mph! This breath-taking, white-knuckle free fall ends with a Super Heroes landing and riders lining up for another encounter with SUPERMAN Tower of Power!"
and a picture of the craziness, also from the website:
we had an absolute blast. i can't WAIT to go again this summer and try that ride again. seriously yo. there's nothing like it. ;)
