Today, I brought my flute home, and PRACTICED while my daddy was AT HOME. And I DIDN'T CARE. Wow, I still can't believe I did that. As a general rule, I'm terrified of my daddy hearing me practice. Unreasonable? Why yes. But today, I dunno what it was. I said, you know what? I wanna play, and dammit I'm gonna play! Woot! Oh, and I have a really hard solo for our festival piece and I dunno if more excited or petrified about it.
On a more serious note: on saturday night, after I dropped nina off at rehearsal, I headed further downtown to meet up with my friends at the deli before going to the roxy to usher/serve for the show. When I met up with them, they'd already ordered and such and I just sat down and told the waitress I didn't want anything. I only had 10 bucks and I knew I should be saving so I can get that damn car fixed. As we're sitting there, a man approaches us and asks us if we could spare some money so he could buy his son a sandwich or something while they waited for food stamps. we all sat there awkwardly; my friends were mid-munch of their dinners. I'd never met a stranger asking for money before. The boys all looked suspiciously at the guy, but my friend michelle and I seemed to be the only ones with a little sympathy. He did look really shabby and thin after all.
So I asked him to hold on a moment,(my guy friends stared incredulously at me)then I reached in my wallet, pulled out my 10 bucks, and I gave it to him. He was very polite and grateful and all, and I just, I dunno, I felt like I should. I've never given money to a stranger before, and my guy friends all thought I was being dumb and that the man was obviously lying, but then I thought about if there really was a son and he really did need a sandwich. :(
And if it turns out that the man was actually lying, then I suppose he'll have to live with that fact that he robbed a high school girl of her money.
God help me if I ever move to a place like New York city where that kind of stuff happens every day. I'll be flat broke within a week.
On a lighter note: happy valentine's day everyone! If you have a significant other, congrats to you and I hope you enjoy the time with that person! If you don't, do join me for virtual chocolates and cute animals and hearts and the like! Oh! and I really want to start making adorable bento lunches for myself and for nina. seems like a creative way to make food more fun. Look at this adorable totoro box! Want!
