I spent most of last Thursday doing something that turned out to be completely useless. Yay.
So, sometime last fall or so my mom volunteered me (after asking if I would do it) to maintain the website of a local nonprofit organization that she's involved with through work. (She's now on the board there, but she wasn't at the time, just one of the few non-law enforcement members. ^_^) They had a person, who they believed had agreed to do it for free, who was charging them large amounts of money for making even minor changes to the site, sometimes no visible changes at all. So yeah, she wasn't working out, and that's when Mom came up with the idea of me doing it.
Now I am, though the marketing community for this organization decided it was right about time to overhaul the page a bit, too. The other person was using Front Page (or its successor, or something like that) to do the site. I think. Whatever she used, it looked very similar to the html Word produces when you use its "save as web page" (or however they word it) feature. I actually don't use a WYSIWYG editor when I work on web stuff. I just don't care for them. And I really, really hate the html Word produces. So along with the changes the marketing committee wanted, I've been working on cleaning up the behind the scenes stuff. ^_^
There was a meeting of the marketing committee last Friday, which I had to be at so they could look at the site, see the changes they'd asked for back in December, and decide if it needed any more changes. I, hopeless procrastinator that I am, put most of this work off until Thursday. The changes themselves didn't take long, but then I kept working on cleaning up stuff, including a bunch of information pages that didn't need changing, just having their contents tidied and such. Not hard, just tedious. I spent most of Thursday afternoon working on that.
Then, at the meeting on Friday, they decided that the entire section of the site with all those pages was going to go. It was all information taken from safety brochures from a national council, and so instead of keeping it there, they'd just get rid of it all and link to the original site instead. (They were linking there already anyway. ^_^) So all of that time I spent on those pages... for nothing!! I'm not angry, really, since I was listening to podcasts and drama cds the entire time I worked on this anyway, and it was probably the best decision for them to make. But still, it's a little frustrating... ^_^
