Follies of Mau's moving, part I

Sep 19, 2012 16:48

I've decided to record my mishaps and mistakes, so that other people might learn from it. To compensate I will also add the occasional lucky occasion and record the general occurrence of the moving. XD

Weekend
I've been doing very little about moving this weekend. Generally I've been readying some paperwork to send and enjoying my last free weekend. I also boxed some things but in general that made the room seem messier than before. That puzzled me.

Monday
Monday was the big day of final check-up. I and three other people (as I would definitely miss things they would see) had a good long look around the place to notice any discrepancies in the place and found two: There was a wide, but not too deep "bite" missing out of the floor, which just looked weird and has been noted, and some (factory) paintwork on the windowsills started chipping already, which was weird. Also noted. I checked out the location of a second-hand store where I will probably be buying some things.

Tuesday
I hope to avoid many days like these. After the inspection, I decided to change my mind about having the floors laid in (I got cold feet, which the salesman found hilarious since I have floor heating. I lol'd). When I ordered them, I got a reasonable offer, and I declined. That was a discounted offer, and I ended up paying the normal price now, which pretty much came down to €310 more. Ouch. Also, I want my floors put in after I get the kitchen installed and I hadn't heard from them yet. Turns out my kitchen will be delivered 10 days after I move in. The floors will be put in 17 days after. The only flooring that will be on time (and thus the only completed room) After that I did my final color inspiration trip at the Gamma and bought a small sanding machine (home brand instead of the one I wanted to buy (sold out), saving €20), and decided to go with texture paint instead of glass fiber wallpaper. Both will require at least two layers of work, but I can pull off the texture paint on my own, and more importantly, this will save me at least €50! I didn't even bother to calculate the grand total for that. Since I'm abandoning my bed, I might be selling it to the next renter.

Wednesday
Today was... Weird. First I get a mail from some company which turned out to be my kitchen supplier. Attached is the end bill with a delivery date attached to it. The bill is €50 more expensive than we agreed on. The cause? Government decision to increase VAT from 19% to 21%. Not really anything anyone can do anything about, but sufficient cause to piss me off. Still, I managed to get my insurances fixed and got a form to change my address at the council. apparently they can't keep track of this themselves, even though I've already received tax bills from them about the new address at the old one. Makes perfect sense. Now I need to find a photocopier. And just this moment I got a call from the finances department of the contractor. If he's going to tell me he hasn't received the money yet and I can't move in Friday, I'm going to lose it. I NEED this weekend! Hell, Monday the first people will be there to install the glass fibre for my Internet. If I'm not there at that time, I'll have to pay "voorrijkosten", which essentially are just fees for them turning the car around!

...

And he hadn't received it yet. That was the most horrid 10 minutes of this whole predicament yet! Luckily there is still a period of grace time in which the people managing my money can send some sort of proof that they're actually going to pay for this and it all will turn out ok. Here's hopin'... I'm still not exactly at ease.

Total losses so far: €360
Total gains through settling for less: €70
