today at the Alameda County Clerk's Office...

Today and tomorrow I'm taking a much needed vacation from work! Jon and I went out and took care of wedding errands including cakes and getting our marriage license! The marriage license thing was kind of a downer though. I didn't realize I'd have to decide then and there what I want my future last name to be. A while back I told Jon that I want to hyphenate my name, but I was really still thinking it over and I wanted to have a serious talk with him before I made any final decision. But when they issue you a license the name you put down is final. So I made an on the spot decision to hyphenate my name. It was kind of crappy. I felt horrible and I know at the time Jon didn't understand my reasons for wanting it which stank even more. We talked about it as soon as we left the building and he said he's ok with it, but that's not the way I meant for that to go. Oh well.

Basically it's a family tradition. My mom's mom changed her last name, but always went as Alice Roston Carter. My mom changed her name back to her maiden name as soon as she divorced my dad, and my aunt on my dad's side hyphenated her name. Plus I'm attached to my last name. I've had it for the past 27 years, after all. =) Future kids will all have Jon's last name, but I want to keep some of my old identity in this way. =)

And I haven't forgotten I'm supposed to post photos of my shadowboxes, I swear. I just haven't taken the pictures yet. I need to go through my camera memory cards to free up some space, and that's always a hard thing to do for me so I keep putting it off. I'll do it soon.
