Prelude - Part 1

“You surely did not think our last encounter would be the only one, did you? Your taste is not one that is easily forgettable…and I have never been a creature to deny what captivates my soul. I have reached out to you countless times over the past two years…and the curtain of the temporal has obscured any hope I had of making contact again. I am not a man given to desperation…desire and need, however, can create their own alchemy…and magic never dreamed of in the minds of the pedestrian and mundane can weave worlds we never knew existed. A link has been forged…it will never recognize the words of denial.

I am afraid that for the time being, the secret of the origin of this diary and how it fell into my hands…along with how it came into the possession of this bookshop owner shall have to remain a mystery. I have kept it safe for many years and am only able to relinquish it to one in the unique position of fully appreciating its story. The tale in and of itself is really nothing new…it has been played out in a thousand different permutations throughout history with only the faces, settings and costumes being different. It is rather what the reader chooses to read into it and how she decides to interpret the words that holds the secret here. Part of your beauty and mystique is your complete and utter surrender to your instincts…an ability far too many fear and therefore eschew. I pray you use them here. Start by opening this diary and turning the first page...allow the writer to bring you, a willing traveler, into her world…for her story could be your own."

Yours,

Lord A.

The edge of your mind…that one, thin conscious remaining thread...makes out a vague sound as if from miles away…the creak of a door closing itself on the outside world …and the low, metallic tumble of a lock.
