Download General notes:
It's a mix for Toy Story 3, but some songs (especially the first couple of songs) also evoke Toy Story and Toy Story 2. It's a cohesive trilogy, after all!
Many of the songs trace Woody's emotional arc throughout the film. In the Toy Story 3 artbook (p. 25), there is a brilliant sketch from screenwriter Michael Arndt that maps out the parallel "emotional arcs" of the film for Woody on the one hand, and the rest of the toys on the other. At the beginning, they are driven apart by their different reactions to the crisis, but all converge back together at the end. I wish I could share the image with you, but my scanner is completely on the fritz. But, you all saw the film, and I hope this mix does justice to its complex characters and themes.
However, don't take it too seriously! I promise it's a lot of fun, too. :)
For some of these songs, the lyrics turned up in online searches don't seem to be very accurate. (For instance, I couldn't find good lyrics at all for Track 1.) Just beware!
Caution: The bonus track (11) contains one instance of profanity, but I really doubt its usage here would offend anyone. But...just so you know. You can delete this track if you find it offensive for some reason.
Tracks & Lyric Excerpts:
1. You Can Be Timeless (All; Buzz & Woody)
We got stuck in the middle of some middle road
If nothing happens now, then were do we go from here?
And we can find some kind of place that will take us in
And have us back again
Take us in and have us back again
I'm always there when you need me to be
Will you be there for me?
2. Soldier (Jessie (to Woody) - referencing TS2, informing her behavior in TS3)
I don't believe in anything but myself
But then you opened up a door
Now I start to believe in something else
I took a faithful leap and packed up all my things
And all my love and gave it to somebody else
But how do I know if I'll make it through?
How do I know
Where's the proof in you?
3. Broken Toy (Woody)
The people you love are hard to find
So I think if I were in your shoes
I would be kind
I look out for you
Come rain, come shine
What good does it do?
I guess I'm a toy that is broken
I guess we're just older now
4.The Captain (I can't help but see this as a song for Ken, with the Captain being Lotso of course. A bit random, but I think it's a nice interlude.)
I've come down with something
I'm frozen, tied up, cast in lead
I'm earning a reputation
My conscience, mistrust, and regret
Courageous, just like the captain
Marching forward with no doubt in his head
Onward, onward
5. Everything Changes (All)
I watch the children play
I'd like to be that free one day
They're calling me
If I run
Everything changes
If I stay
Everything changes
If I need
Everything changes
If I believe
Everything changes
6. Hang On (All)
Stuck without a captain or a chart
No one seems to know just who to follow anymore
Hang on, hang on
There's a twilight, a nighttime and a dawn
We break, we bend
With hand in hand
7. Answer (All; esp. Buzz, Jessie, Woody)
I will be your solid ground
I will hold the balance if you can't look down
I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all gone out
You'll still be burning so bright
8. Jubilee (Andy's toys, Bonnie's toys, to Woody)
And I can tell by the way you're standing
With your eyes filling with tears
That it's habit alone keeps you turning for home
Even though your home is right here
Where the people who love you are gathered
Under the wise wishing tree
May we all be considered then straight on delivered
Down to the Jubilee
9. Lovin' You (Jessie/Buzz, All & Bonnie)
Whenever I come undone
I know your smile will patch me up
And when I'm torn
You wrap me up just like the sun
And keep me warm
Oh, you're far too sweet for always loving me
10. All My Friends (Woody)
All my friends live in pain
Longing for the warmth of childhood
To bring them home again
We all know that the storm is coming
Everybody wants to know which way to go
All my friends are dear to me
Oh, when the storm comes they're as close as family
All my friends are the ones I choose
Oh, if I hear them knock, you know I can't refuse
11. Handle With Care (All -- a toy anthem, of sorts :))
Been beat up and battered round
Been sent up and I've been shot down
You're the best thing that I've ever found
Handle me with care
I'm so tired of being lonely
I've still got some love to give
Won't you show me that you really care
~~Comments are definitely appreciated!! I've been working on this thing for quite awhile now. :)
