"Despicable Me." What a title. I can't believe it wasn't already taken. I saw this tonight in a theater packed with teens and adults (maybe one or two kids, tops). I'm absolutely loving the place animation has staked in mainstream culture. ^_^v
The movie was about what I expected it to be, and certainly nothing new thematically or plot-wise, but that's not meant in a bad way at all. It has some very funny scripts and interactions. Although it has some slapstick, it never goes for the lowbrow humor and remains certifiably classy. I LOLed throughout. I definitely recommend seeing this one in 3D -- It's much more optimized for the 3D than Toy Story 3 was, and it looks SO good. The animated environment and character designs are endlessly entertaining.
I am reminded of cartoons from the 90s, particularly The Powerpuff Girls.
I was kind of sad when someone behind me commented that the oldest girl was their least favorite of the little girls. She's the serious, skeptical, responsible type, definitely having the most personality of the three, and I liked her a lot. Her design also reminded me a little of...me, when I was younger. ;)
The soundtrack was a surprise. It starts the movie off on the right foot and is just very very cool!! B)
