There needs to be a forum of awareness and education with resources for help. Kids bring guns and knives to school all the time and we don't hear about it unless it escalates to an incident. And how about teachers be educated on early warning signs of those who could become dangerous? Not that it should be all on the teachers, but the devistating occurances are usually kids that didn't or couldn't tap into help and parents that were ignoring or even contributing to the behavior.

I sincerely appreciate your input and kind words. I hadn't even considered much of this. Maybe this was naive of me, but I hadn't even considered the notion that a proportionately large percentage of adolescents might have, at some point, carried a weapon to school. Doing some superficial research, I've found that it's as high as 17% admitting that they've (a survey of high schoolers) carried a weapon to school in the month prior to the survey. That is astonishing to me. I didn't even own a pocket knife until senior year in high school!

I like tremendously the idea of creating a forum for awareness and help, including educating educators (adults in general?) on the warning signs of behavior that could turn violent. I wonder if it would be a good idea to include this as part of a weaponry class or seminar in schools so that students are aware of the warning signs and in turn, a whole new generation of future parents are aware as well.

I'll have to devote greater thought to this soon. For now, sleep. Again, many thanks for taking the time to respond. You are always very thoughtful in your words.
