This took me two hours to write O_O

I've apparently written too much for an LJ comment, so I'm making this a post on my own journal. This is largely addressed to Emma and Pud in response to their posts earlier this afternoon. Please read the following knowing that it's all said with the greatest of respect, political discussions usually become heated, and I've no wish for that to ( Read more... )

I am highly offended. Look at my eyes. No, closer. You see how offended they are? Exactly. Very. ^_^

To summarise my thoughts on your post: Good point, well made.

My post was never intended to lambast people showing an interest in the US election, I was as excited last night as anyone, and any form of criticism was aimed at myself as much as everyone else.

The US election IS (was) important and it's fine for people to be interested. What has been annoying me is the amount of people I'm seeing who are acting as if they are suddenly politically active and motivated when really they're just being swept up in the, admitedly very impressive, media machine and touring entertainment show that has been the election campaign.

I've not heard a peep from yourself or Lisa over this so none of it was directed at you chaps.

My tone was perhaps a touch on the harsh, but at the time I had just had an eyeful of people, non Americans, stating "Don't fuck it up America!" Wonderful. Terribly constructive.

And I agree that it is a difficult choice when it comes to deciding who we hate less for our own government, but if you don't like the Tories or Labour you can try the Lib Dems. Fuck it, last time I went for the Green Party simply out of respect for a Party Politcal Broadcast I'd seen and one interview where they shockingly gave direct answers to the questions without attacking any other party. THAT is the kind of personalities I want in charge.

I have no idea where my vote will go next time. I've been rubbish at voting in the past, as I think many others have.

My only hope is that all the hype and hubbub around the US elections will inspire people to use their vote next year for our own. Again, I inlcude myself in that.

I think the "Don't fuck it up America!" sentiment comes from the backlash against GWB, and the impression that McCain was going to follow in his quasi-republican footsteps. I remember the same feeling in 2004 when they re-elected him and everyone was in shock that they could do such a f*cking stupid thing. They f*cked up and no mistake, and I don't think we could bear to see them do it again. Thankfully for us they made (what we see as) the right choice, yay, and isn't the outpouring of positive (internet lol) energy that's going on today inspiring? I love it, really do.

I'm telling you this like you don't already know it, I know you do, so I'm just sayin'.
