This took me two hours to write O_O

I've apparently written too much for an LJ comment, so I'm making this a post on my own journal. This is largely addressed to Emma and Pud in response to their posts earlier this afternoon. Please read the following knowing that it's all said with the greatest of respect, political discussions usually become heated, and I've no wish for that to ( Read more... )

Dude, I'm not disagreeing with anything you're saying. In fact, your points are backing up exactly the thing I was laying down. British politics inspire very little enthusiasm in us and we in turn have all but given up on it....it's a sad state of affairs really ( ... )

Thanks, no. Jump leads for the brain might be useful though, I haven't used it nearly enough and I think I strained something.

Like I say, I'm not sure I disagreed with you on any points. The tone of the posts I thought was a little harsh on people for taking a vast interest in affairs overseas while spurning politics at home. It's absolutey a good thing to encourage people to take an interest in local affairs, but not so much to lambast them for making the decision to spurn them. Perhaps that's because again, I'm that person.

... and I apologise, because I didn't understand your line "I guess I should be saying this to the actual political parties over here more than the voters?". Or rather, I didn't understand what you were suggesting should be said to the parties, so if the message is "give us more to care about", you're right, because I don't care about why Suit Guy A says Suit Guy B sucks .

I really didn't think my post sounded harsh...sorry about that if it did....0_o I don't think i said much at all about the US elections other than that I was keeping my fingers crossed and empathising with the pressure many Americans must feel under today.

And then, when I came to talk about our own shores, yes - 'Give us more to care about' is exactly what I meant. :)

Not so much your posts, but Pud's came across as such. I thought, at least.

Yours and Pud's posts both came across that people in the UK don't show any interest in UK politics compared to what we show in US politics, and so the people that responded explained why, myself and Dan included. Perhaps yours was a tiny bit clearer than Pud's when you mentioned at the end that it should probably be aimed at the politicians, but still, you DID aim it at 'your readers' ;) Pud's, very specifically, pleaded with us to show as much enthusiasm for our own next year, and so we came back with "We don't *because*...". No one's saying you disagree with this that or the other, we're just responding to what we read.
