Dear Muiskexpress,

You were always one of my favourite magazines. Spex is apparently written by indienazis, Rolling Stone celebrates either Thin Lizzy or AC/DC in every single issue, Visions is rare to spot on shelves. You were the one to warm my less-pretentious indie heart.

However, what did you think with the 50 most overrated bands article? Kaiserchiefs? Who on earth thinks the Kaiserchiefs are influential or note-worthy? I love them but weren't they the middle of the middle of what was once called The Bands? Yes, I think so. I can't remember much of what else was written because I refused to get such a useless issue. But one thing stuck with me: The Strokes. There was no album for a while, yes. And they opened the gates for The Libertines which you called "much more influential and important". I should be nice because I love The Linertines but I also love The Strokes and I remember that there was not much else to love when they suddenly appeared with their Chuck's and suit jackets. So even if The Libertines had the bigger impact (but really only on the internet, non? Dragging the Artic Monkeys in their wake), The Strokes possibly had the impact that made The Libertines as big as they were. So much about that damn thing. Always remember: There's some people who already liked music before it was ripable off youtube.

I got the newest issue because The Drums are the coverstory and I have some interest in that band (it's been a long, long time since I last liked a brandnew band). Now guess what it says on the cover! The Drums - Hype, Hybris oder das Beste seit den Strokes? Dear Musikexpress, please make up your mind about The Strokes. Do you hate them or were they the second coming? And also, the person who wrote the article about The Drums, did they want to be a journalist or a professional fanfiction writer? It almost read like a Nick Hornby novel, only less funny, more depressing, slightly erotic in a stinky dressing room. I'll have another go at reading it because I hope that between those spoutings of unqualified prose is a tiny little bit of information about the band - apart from Adam probably being the prettiest.

Dear Musikexpress, I'm disappointed in you. In the future, I hope I can stick to Visions which was once my first ever musicmagazine my sister gave me for my birthday when The Strokes were the coverstory. And for the person who wrote the article, I hope next time is less of a shortstory and more of an interview. Otherwise, I might have to come to Munich and offer my journalistic skills to prevent the magazine to become utterly crap.

Sincerely etc.
