At first, there was the feeling of standing at the edge of wakefulness. There was the sound of ticking in the distance; an ever-present sound Lelouch has become acquainted well with. It was yet another day in the state between life and death, a place that was arguably worse than hell itself. Lelouch had resigned himself to awakening to yet another ( Read more... )

"No!" Lelouch yelled automatically, even if his father's words were nothing but correct. The city -- it was a mockery of his existence! It amounted to nothing and it refused to give him the end he had given to himself.

"If you had allowed the Ragnarok Connection to move forward, I think you would have enjoyed the ensuing future, Lelouch. You would have found that your flimsy ideals are nothing, and that that was truly what Nunnally and Euphemia would have wanted."

Lelouch said nothing, and for his silence, Charles laughed derisively. "And now... dead, and lost in a world even you can't change. How sad, my son. But that is what happens to disobedient children. Enjoy the mercy of these new gods you have chosen to serve! We could have had a perfect world, without gods! Without wars and without lies, and now--"

"You will suffer the consequences, you-- and Nunnally."

Whatever mask of composure Lelouch may have had was effectively cracked as his father mentioned Nunnally. He knew it would not be wise to allow himself the weakness... but the reaction came unbidden, accompanied by a knowing feeling. He knew, that while he was still existing, though dead, that somehow... somehow-- he should be able to do something and that--

He was not allowed even the peace to continue pondering the meaning of his words as suddenly, Nunnally lay before him-- eyes closed and peaceful... but bloodied, dead.

"People will not change on their own. Wars will continue to happen and weaklings-- like Nunnally and you -- will only be trampled on by the ensuing wars. Like noise, as you said, my son. You are nothing and your deaths will mean nothing as well!"

"No!" Lelouch yelled in defiance, even as the World of C and the Sword of Akasha crumbled all around him. "I will not allow it! I will-- I will not allow it!"

Charles di Britannia's laughter continued to echo about him even as everything dissolved to nothing, and all sensations.... diminished.

This was death, he realized, as he knew it in the city.

The World of C was replaced by the streets of Tokyo.
