“I can’t do this.”

A sigh fills the room after the short statement. It’s not like it wasn’t expected, contrary, actually. They all knew it was coming, one moment or another.

“Yes, you can.” A blonde woman says determinedly, putting her hand on Santana’s shoulder, turning her around and pointing to the door. “That is where you are supposed to be.”

“What i- she-” The Latina starts but can’t truly form a coherent sentence. Sure, there is shock and a certain amount of stress but there is absolutely no reason for cowarding out now. She is right for this. She is right for Brittany.

“San, go on. She’s waiting for you.” Rachel’s soft voice spreads as she looks at the small window on the door. The room is nearly empty and the anxiety is obvious inside.

They were expecting this. Exactly as it is, exactly as it was. Santana is known for her commitment issues and this situation obliges her to face them. There is no backing out if she pleases, no recesses if she needs them. This is it.

This is the moment she decides her future. Her life, career, family; she needs to decide at this particular moment. Everything is in her hands and she can decide nothing.

Nothing. Her mind is blank and plain as a piece of paper, waiting nervously on someone to write on it. She needs a sign; something to show her this is happening, something to assure her everything is going to be alright. She loves her, she admits that. But can she-

No, she doesn’t think she can. She doesn’t think at all, actually. She doesn’t know what to do; her friends are there, she can’t escape now. If she wants to leave, she’d have to explain the reason to them all. It’s not that she can’t do that, just, one person there… She can’t look at her and run away from love.

“S, look at me.” Rachel puts her small hand on her forearm and calmingly rubs the area when she lowers her gaze to look at her friend. A single tear escapes down her cheek and Rachel’s other hand takes the task of erasing it, like it never existed. “Tell me what happened on your first real date.”

The odd question threw everyone in the waiting lounge in state of thinking. To Santana, though, it was nothing new. Nothing different than any other, casual day.

“We fed ducks. We had a picnic, like the one with our parents over summer vacation in primary school. Just no parents, of course, that would be weird.” She proceeds to tell the story as if Rachel hasn’t already heard it numerous times. On her face, a smile is forming slowly and softly as she continues. “It was like time had stopped just for us. And then I won her a stuffed piglet on that stupid carnival game. Do you know she still has that silly toy?”

She asks the question and Rachel nods knowingly, she is absolutely sure of Santana’s choice.

“And then she kissed me, like the first time; it was always her who initiated kisses. She muttered ‘I want to have a family with you’ and I carelessly dismissed it. It was Brittany, I was sure she was just daydreaming. Or is it nightdreaming when it’s dark?”

“I think you’ve found your answer. And changing topics is a terrible habit, for your information.” The tiny diva says as she walks away into Quinn’s arms.

Throwing away the last bit of doubt, Santana heads towards the door, putting her palm on it. She exhales loudly and pushes it firmly, being greeted with the sight of Brittany and a little bundle in her arms.

“Is it a-” She isn’t allowed to resume the question when the blonde woman answers.

“A girl. Our perfect little girl.” She says with tears in her eyes which Santana quickly moves and wipes away. It’s supposed to be a happy moment, she won’t let Brittany cry now.

Before she knows it, Brittany is lifting the baby up and puts her into Santana’s arms, smiling widely as she takes in the wonderful sight. She calls everyone in after a few seconds when she notices that her girlfriend won’t let go soon and it’s rude to keep people waiting that long.

Mike is the first one to come in and he stands grinning across from Santana. He is moved by the Latina’s expression as he watches, for he first time, her being soft. Whole attitude forgotten, she isn’t the same anymore.

Quinn and Rachel can notice it, too. It’s her being dazed away by this little girl that bullies out a few tears out of Rachel’s eyes and Quinn happily wipes them away with a few kisses. The moment is captured as Puck presses a button on his camera.

“I just… take her.”

“Why?” Brittany asks but still takes her kid.

“Because I need to ask you something important and I can’t do that with her distracting me.” Santana explains softly and looks at her girlfriend adoringly before she moves on. “You said that the middle name is completely my choice and I figured it out.”

“What is it, honey?” Brittany turns all her attention to Santana and blinks the tears away before nodding her head to encourage her to go on.

“Rachel. Hannah Rachel Lopez-Pierce.”

“How about Hannah Rachel Lopez?” Brittany asks and notices that Rachel’s tears have increased drastically. Santana nods her head reassuringly and takes her daughter in her arms once again, sitting on an armchair to rest for a while. She’s been on her feet the whole day and she needs it.

She distantly asking Quinn and Mike if they would be the godparents. If it were up to Santana, she would have given Rachel the title of the godmother for her child but, after having discussed it with Brittany, she agreed it was only fair to ask Quinn that. They have been friends for years and both Santana and Brittany knew it was the right choice.

For now, she’ll just hold their little girl, whom she plans to spoil, and forget all of the worries in the world.
