Man it's almost been a year since I posted here! No excuse because I do stop by at least once or twice a week to read my friends page. I guess it's Facebook's fault. Easier to right one line in the status there than a whole entry here. So perhaps I'll try doing more posts here but keeping them short.
This past week I was sick as a dog with a cold so didn't do much but sleep, watch movies and blow my nose. After the third day I felt strong enough to read again. I watched an interesting movie called "Surfwise" about the Paskowitz family. Here's a link to the wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Paskowitz It made me want to buy a cheap RV and travel around the states with Paddy. I'm currently trying to think of some project or scheme that would allow us to do just that.
I also started reading 2 books: A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, which is about walking the Appalachian Trail, a feat that is definitely on my list of things to do before I die; and The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, the sequel of sorts of The Shadow of the Wind, a lovely, lovely read.
Today we have to deal with yet another stupid piece of bureaucracy by going to the Standesamt to officially change my last name to my married name, which it has been for the last 3 years according to US law. So this morning I was looking online to see what I can expect and found that Germany has the right to "approve" or "reject" a baby's first name. If the name is not gender specific or is too unconventional, they will most certainly reject it. Where the fuck am I living for chrissakes?!?!
