Last Night I went to Sheffield to see VNV with Jo and some people form Ziggy's. The entire evening was awesome.
Got to Sheffield early (after freezing all the way there in a car with no heating :( ). Wandered around in the cold a bit and found a rock bar. It has a host of weekly nights for everything from EBM to metal, and Hobgoblin + a gust ale. If only it was in York.
Then we went to the Corp. The two support bands were good especially for support bands. Kloq were a bit generic, but good enough to start dancing to. In The Nursery were a band made mostly of drum kits. Including two huge bass drums centre stage. There was lots of booms. They still had keyboard and occasional bass guitar giving the songs a melody, so it wasn't just noise.
VNV were out of this world. Far better than two years ago. They got the crowd going, which gave them the energy for an awesome performance and so the crowd got more enthusiastic and so on. We managed to get 3 encores out of them and they were on top form. You could tell they were having a wail of a time. They played stuff from across their entire history, and read what people wanted really well, sticking to the energetic stuff for the most part.
Then there was the club night. There was much flailing. It was consistently on par with Mutate. Ended up leaving at 2 (it went on till 4) got home for 4, had two hours sleep before work :). There was the amusing antics of extracting the car from the locked car park, but it all got sorted eventually.
