Mustgo Dinner. (noun): The fun night at home when every one gets to eat items of their choosing from the cupboard and fridge (aka O.Y.O. (on your own). Usually accompanying the phrase, "Everything must go!"
Etiology: used by some mothers when either funds for groceries run low, or they want to clean out the cupboards.
Tonight was my first ever, sans madre, personal mustgo night.
For most college students, this means that after the last of the Spaghetti O's and Top Ramen is gone, one must stave off hunger pains and tempting lattes until the next meager paycheck arrives. Unfortunately, even this impoverished standard betrays the wealth of an American with the privilege of higher education, or even education at all for that matter.
For me, that meant that I do still have items of nutritional value, but didn't know quite how to make a meal out of yellow popcorn kernels, pasta, and rice. So I settled with pasta. As the water boiled, I scrounged around for spices left to confinement in the recesses of the cabinets. What ended up on my mustgo plate?
Pesto pasta with tuna and topped with sun dried tomatoes.
Confession: I'm a little bit proud of myself.
