My latest amusements and joys:
1)
CEILIDHS!! Pronounced "kay-lees", they are social folk dances that have stolen my heart with their jumpy 1 2 3 steps and partner-swapping. The recent Cancer Research UK benefit ceilidh at The Assembly Rooms (George Street) had me sweating profusely from swinging around every lady in the room on my arm (and from the intensely cute gents in their kilts, but that's another story indeed). Tonight's One Scotland Ceilidh, featuring
Peat Bog Faeries and two stages of crazy dancing fun, will prove to be intensely marvelous, I am sure of it.
2)
"A Little More" by Jennifer Knapp - yeah, girl. You hide from those saints.
3) Collaborations by Sinead O'Connor - yeah, girl. You cover that roots reggae and make it unrecognizable from the original forms.
4) Re-reading the Book of Mormon and Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures - yeah, boy. You become knowledgable about those American religious movements.
5) Learning more recipies for tasty Indian and Thai curries. Hooray for skills acquired!
6) Good times at Scruffy Murphy's (Queensferry Street) with James, Michael, and Liam. Good thing we decided against having the brawl outside, though!
7) Tonight's dinner with Skander Spies, Fenella, and Vivienne Bible - yes, those are their real birth names, they're that cool.
8) Not really amusing or joyous, but LEAVING THIS COUNTRY IN A LITTLE OVER A WEEK! It feels like my Scottish life is coming up to the apocalypse, that the icy moon will fall onto the castle and roll into Princes Street Gardens. Bits of me will always be here, and vice-versa.
OK, now off to take a Political Science exam... yikes. Good times, indeed. Cheers - Nick
