8 months to the wedding
Holy moly, where did the last month go?
so I thought I might do something new and different and give you all a wedding planning update.. I have been not doing so in a public forum because I kinda want a lot of it to be a surprise for the guests - but let's face it, 90% of you guys are on the other side of the world and aren't coming -
So as it stands, we have organized:
The Venue - A maze/gardens followed by reception at my parents' property in a marquee
The Date - 11/11/11
The Photographer/Celebrant - Out of sheer luck we found ourselves a celebrant/photographer team (they are a couple! very handy!) www.tuazonmccheyne.com
The Bridesmaids: Maid of Awesome: My Best Friend Tara, My sister Melissa, one of Phil's best friends, Bec - also one of mine, obviously :)
The Groomsmen: Best Man: Harley (Phil's best friend and Bec's Hubby), My brother Jesse, His brother Pete.
The Bridesmaids dresses: Black Marilyn Monroe style with Coloured Petticoats
The Groomsmens suits: they haven't been organized yet but at the moment we're thinking no jackets, just shirt, tie, waistcoat and paints.
Rings: Phil's is already here and we ordered mine last week to match my Engagement ring - it cost way, way more than we expected and we were a bit blergh about that for a PLAIN band - but at least it'll match the engagement ring perfectly.
Catering: We're having Wood Fired Pizzas made and will make our own pasta's/salads to go with :D
We're also thinking about doing a Dessert buffet but want to keep that part under wraps ;)
Cake: Cupcake tower with a cutting cake on top. no idea of design yet besides that.
Hair + Makeup - luckily my friend Jess has introduced me to some of her friends over the years- one of which is a newly qualified Make-up Artist, the other is a hairdresser - score. So i'm doing a trial with both of them on the 26th of march. Seems early to me, but I suppose it gives me extra time if I'm unhappy, to figure out what I want - I realised last night that Inara (firefly) is totally going to be my makeup inspiration, and maybe hair, too, sorta - I really have no idea what to do with my hair, whether I'll have a birdcage veil or just something pretty in there.... Suppose I should figure that out.
What I haven't got organized:
My wedding dress - this is a major work in progress. I *loved* one that I tried on - the VERY FIRST one as a matter of fact, which I picked out myself to try and the bridal shop lady didn't think would work on me - but it did, so very well. I was 90% sold til they told me it was $2200, which just seems fucking ridiculous... so I opted to look around more. I'm shopping this weekend again, have been to a couple of places since, but everything's getting compared to that dress. it's tricky too as a friend owns a bridal shop and told me she could get me any of her suppliers for about half the price the shops will have them displayed for - so part of me is really trying to find one of hers that I LOVE so that I feel like I'm getting an amazing quality dress much cheaper than it would usually be, but it's hard. Being this size I can't just walk into a place and try on anything I want, it's a matter of finding something in my size that I like and at most places that's only been 3 or 4 things - some none - some have pushed me into tiny sizes or just held them up against me and think I'm going to make my mind up from that? um, no.
Phil's suit - he knows basically what he wants, but is tossing up between wearing grey rather than black to be different from the groomsmen in black, and just wearing black but a full 3 piece suit. I personally am fairly unphased as long as he's happy - and he wants to pick the suit himself and have me 'not see him in it until the wedding' ala not seeing the bride before the wedding, which I think is pretty damn adorable also ;D The main reason we're undecided is that I'm thinking about having a dress with some black in it - to go with the bridesmaids - but then everyone would be wearing black but him. So yeah, a lot of his suit will depend on my dress. I.e - if i get a dress like the one I loved - which had silver beading and no black, then a grey suit would be fine :)
hmmm what else? Honeymoon? yeah we're kinda in a holding pattern of 'can't afford it' which means we're heavily leaning toward having a 'homeymoon' and travelling around our local area - seeing the tourist stuff we've never been to, going to the wineries, the luxury places, etc - but still coming home.
I was also thinking however, of organizing a weekend away in Queensland or something and while doing that I might hire someone to clean our house, do up our garden, etc. Because really, that's what we need to spend money on - not a couple of weeks away somewhere.
Plus we get horribly homesick when we go away. Really, it's a bit tragic! We're such terrible home-bodies!
