Don't Be Afraid

For the second time that day he felt his heart f not physically but literally stop. For a fleeting second he was frozen in place. His muscles bunching underneath the worn jacket and the uniformed shirt straining against the masculine frame as he braced himself for what he wasn't entirely sure.

Closing his eyes and willing his muscles to relax he walked into the cold sterilized room. Thinking just how stupid he must of looked and how closing his eyes would not will the problem away he opened them. Slowly turning his head from side to side in hopes of spotting the woman who had screamed only moments before.

She laid in the corner bed huffing and puffing as she tried to drawn in breath through the short gaps of pain. He stared at her as she almost seemed to radiate in the thin blue hospital gown. She keep pushing back her a strand of hair furiously as if it was all the hairs fault for the pain and hospital visit.

The ice melting in his hands reminded him why exactly he had left the room. He hurried over to the woman lying in the hospital bed and over her a small melting ice chip. For awhile as another scream tore from her small frame she didn't notice the hand in front of her. All she could do was focus on willing the pain away.

"Here."

He whispered it softly as if not to disturb her concentration. She looked toward him startled as if she never heard nor saw him come close by. He saw the wild eye fear in her eyes as she looked from his hand to her stomach, obviously wondering if maybe, just maybe the ice he offered her would help relieve the pain.

She extended her hands and they shook slightly as she took the small ice chip and placed it on her tongue. She took a small relief in the ice chip as it cooled her a down a bit.

He took her hand and held it allowing her to squeeze it when the next wave of pain came.

"Babe."

She looked up at him her eyes filled with pain and fear. They both knew that this was going to be a difficult task. She was not the healthiest of women and had a family history of small frail women. He knew she was afraid of the baby that something might go wrong like the last time, that this baby may also be......

He shook his head, his thoughts weren't helping matters. Putting on the bravest face he could and trying his best to smile down at her in hopes of encouraging her. he uttered three words that he hoped would help the situation.

"Don't be afraid."

So yeah this was a spur of the moment writing thigy mibober (i know that makes no sense). Anyway if you do read it don't be to hard on me I meant for it to be a poem at first and it went in a total diffrent direction.
