I woke up this morning from a dream, in which I was running a game. I had my own little world set up, complete with maps and everything. Unfortunately, I had no plot, and nothing set up on the map. I was making up the contents of the world as I went along, and it was not turning out well. People were annoyed, and I was constantly trying to think of a way to entertain them... in short, bad times.
But either way, I woke up with an intense desire to create a game world, one which I would know everything about, and one which players could explore without any preconceived notions about it. This way also, I could run any system on top of the setting, much like Lairian does. Yes, I'm blatantly ripping him off. But I really want to create something original here, something I can take back to college with me, find some real role-players, and just see where it goes, allowing the players to mold and shape the world as they go, which isn't possible in out of the box game settings.
Right now, there are so many ideas kicking around in my head, but I have a pretty solid basis at least for the creation story of the world, and I doubt I'll change that. Now it's a matter of pounding out the details, large and small. I have a globe. I need to fill it. This will take me some time. Hopefully, when all is said and done, this will go better than the last time I tried to run a game. I have a better idea of how it needs to go now. I have a lot more experience in GMing than I had last summer, and I intend to put it to good use.
How odd... I actually slept well last night, without having to try. It feels strange to be so at peace.
