Unbelievable!

For my healthcare in scandinavia class, i am doing my term paper on the comparison between adolescent std rates in sweden and the us. i wanted to get a better idea of todays sex ed standards in the school, so i read the report by Henry Waxman (which i mentioned a long time ago on my journal) about the content of federally funded abstinense only sex ed programs. all of the glaring errors in the programs were shocking, but i couldn't believe that this statement was actually written and taugh in a sex ed program in 2004:

"Just as a woman needs to feel a man's devotion to her, a man has a primary need to feel a woman's admiration. To admire a man is to regard him with wonder, delight, and approval. A man feels admired when his unique characteristics and talents happily amaze her."

I was so shocked, i actually wrote holy shit in the margin right after i read it. Not that i think people dont think this or act this way anymore, but this is a statement made by a program which has just recieved millions of dollars from the federal government! It doesnt really pertain to my paper, but i want to include it anyway just because its so outrageous.

Just for fun, I'll put this one in there too:

"While a man needs little or no preparation for sex, a woman often needs hours of emotional and mental preparation."

I don't know about you, but nothing I do in my life needs hours of emotional and mental preparation.
