"I don't remember her being so...friendly," Caroline Stendhal remarks dryly as she sips her glass of wine. Across the room, Jackie Tyler is entertaining a circle of statesmen, uniformed officers and other inhabitants of the dinner party exuberantly and loudly.
"People change, Caro," Jed Bartlet replies.
"That much?" Caro asks, turning to Governor of Delaware. "And on top of that, she and Peter have this...secret daughter no one ever knew about?"
"They seem happy, Caro, be happy for them, it would do your old, cranky bones some good," Jed says.
"I don't like her."
"You've never liked her."
"Now I really don't like her."
Jed laughs and pats Caro's arm gently. "You're just unhappy because she called Harry a 'Big, strapping hunk of a man.'"
"That is not true," Caro replied haughtily, flipping her hair back.
"Of course it is," Jed replies. He looks around the room and lights up. "Aaahhhh. Abby's very favorite med student and his lovely bride are here. I have to go say hello."
"I find it hard to believe that a lush such as Thomas Wayne is Abigail's favorite," Caro comments.
"And I find it hard to believe that you doubt humanity's ability to change," Jed replies quickly. He opens his mouth again, and she stops him.
"Save me the sermon, Governor," Caro tells him.
"You, Madame, are cranky," Jed remarks, before walking off.
