The breathless air of August

Back home in Ohio, after driving from 8:30 til well about 8:30. I made a lot of stops along the way and also ate dinner with Monica. She gave me a cool pencil box from India. When I got home, Star was dressed up in a Ralph Lauren esque pink polo shirt :). She was so excited to see me that she went crazy barking and bit my thumb! What a doll!

I was so happy to see everyone! Bri and I just hung out and she insisted I watch the guy from "The Soup" video where he dresses up like Rainbow Brite, which was so hilarious that I choked on my own spit while laughing. We watched the hilarious "Sofa King" skit from SNL with Shia LeBouf and Natalie Portman's SNL rap skit too.

I have the Harry Potter book! I haven't started reading it yet. I am deciding what to do today. Not sure what to do with myself, because I am torn between starting work and relaxing. Bri and I already went for a walk and I got 8 hours of sleep which was a long time coming.

Oh yeah, so I did end up going to New York City on Saturday. I went to the Whitney, which I didn't love because I went to see some Edward Hopper paintings (supposedly they have the best collection for him) and there were only two on display! then i ate lunch in the park, and then I was hanging out by this whimsical old-fashioned carousel in Bryant Park. Then I met up with Jeremy from CTY days of old. We listened to some free music in Central Park and chatted about our jobs and poetry. It was funny, we were talking on the bus, and he was talking about communism and socialism and this lady's eyes were bulging! haha. We went to a used bookstore in Chelsea where I found some Joy Harjo poems and saw that JD Salinger's daughter wrote a memoir about her life on the weekend that I am interested in reading. I also found a biography of Edna St. Vincent Millay that I was interested in too. Then we flipped through a bunch of Cds at the used Cd store, but I didn't find what I wanted, so then we ate dinner at some organic restaurant. After that I had to get back to Bethlehem, and that night I packed, loaded up my car, so the next morning all I had to do was put on my bike.

That's all for now! It has been a crazy summer! "Sometimes you remember the world was full of wonderful people you haven't met yet" from Habibi, by Naomi Shihab Nye, one of the books I taught this summer.
