• Damn, it's the 20th. And it was 35 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. Pumpkin everything is everywhere, and the leaves crunched beneath our feet when S and I took a walk last night ( Read more... )

It is gorgeous and sunny here - I think they're saying 24 for today. Which means I'm on the hook for Slurpees after school. A's supposed to go camping with the Scouts this weekend and it's been so hot and dry there's a fire ban, so that sucks. What is camping without a campfire? They'll have to huddle around the wood-burning stove in the cook hut. OTOH, the fall colours are so lovely against the blue sky.

OMG, the endless election stuff. Make it be over. There was a dad at school wearing a 'Hope' t-shirt yesterday and it was amusing listening to him explain to his son what it meant. "Well, anything after Bush was hopeful."

"Why? What did Bush do?"

"Well, he changed the Constitution."

Long discussion about what a Constitution is, and then J came out of class so I had to be in that conversation. I don't even know if the Bush thing is accurate. Isn't changing the Constitution really difficult? IDEK. All my knowledge of US law comes from TV dramas, so it's probably woefully inaccurate.

I don't know if they'll be inspiring to you, but I've been listening to Sinead O'Connor, The Cranberries, and Van Morrison lately. The Cranberries gave me the title for my fic, so that was helpful.

Songza looks really fun! I'll have to check it out. First I have to have a shower. I don't feel like doing anything today, but I really should. I finished the first draft of the fish signs and sent them off, so now I have to ponder the wisdom of making an exhibit about Mounties in 1875 as if it were a Twitter feed. Or possibly Facebook. I'm not sure of the audience. I think they get mostly elementary kids and British seniors, neither of whom will be on either of those kinds of social media. Hmmm.

Maybe the shower will help.

Dude, your high is higher than ours? What is happening to the world order? But frak, I hear you about burn bans. We had one here for most of the summer. In fact, I'm not even sure it's officially off, although we did a campfire last weekend and are probably doing another this Saturday. It's certainly been raining enough lately.

Well, I'm not an expert Constitutional scholar either, but I don't think Bush changed the Constitution. I just think he really enjoyed abusing the idea of what it actually says, as do most Republicans, actually. Then again, we always wind up in super stupid debates, because there is an entire cadre of people who think no one should ever take any kind of technological change into account when discussing the Constitution. Argh.

I always get my fic titles from music now! I think lowriseflare got me started on that practice.

1875 Mounties on Twitter what? You have the most amusing job!

The shower helped. I'm thinking FB is the way to go, because then they can 'like' articles and attend events. Her Majesty the Queen of England has created an event: Signing of Treaty 7. Big Bear will NOT be attending. Bwah!

Yeah, I would have led with Bush starting the war in Iraq, myself. The constitution thing seemed shaky.
