She barely gets morning sickness, but the combination of first trimester exhaustion and working full time saps her energy so completely that she falls asleep on the couch every evening after dinner.

He watches her, circles under her eyes brighter purple in the uneven light of the television, the button of her jeans undone, tiny swell of her abdomen that wasn't there last week; he thinks about what it means to start over, to do this again knowing what he knows now, about Kim and Teri.

He read it in another lifetime, but he's never forgotten one line from some Barbara Kingsolver novel:

It is senseless to love anything this much.

I've had this up for like... an hour now. And I keep rereading it, between doing other things and I just...have no words.

You have no clue how much this delights me. Just think when you ACTUALLY write the whole thing.

P.S. No need to apologize to BK. She should apologize to YOU for not writing this as part of what she meant by that line. Clearly she was talking about Jack and Renee and their unborn baby and just didn't know it yet.

Aw, dude it's three sentences! And that damn quote from BK always hops into my head whenever kids come into the picture, because it's one of those things that you don't realize is true until it's too damn late. Yikes.

I'm gonna write the whole thing. I cannot wait to have time. Heh. And guh, all he ever does is watch her, especially in S8. But really in S7 too -- he was just trying to pretend it was for other reasons.
