So I've been thinking about the
Jrockyaoi community and the glory days of days gone by and it got me thinking, the problem isn't so much that we're losing old writers but that we're not gaining new ones. If people read more fics, more writers come naturally right? Especially with something like Jrock. Let's be honest, we probably all thought writing real life pairings was a little weird at first, right? It's not something you automatically think to do, though actually the One Direction community is probably doing wonders to planting the idea of band fics into people minds. Some are probably even good, i'm assuming.
So obviously the best way to attract new people is to advertise right? Only that's cheap and tacky when you're spreading adverts all over the internet. People would be put off more than excited to have a look. Then it finally hit me, an elegant solution that might not even work.
It starts with cross posting. All my fics are posted to the
jrockyaoi community and AO3. I'm not the only one who does it and what we have on these alternative websites is readers who have looked for jrock fanfiction in the first place. Some might even be writer's themselves. Either way reading more obscure fandoms you're prepared to look outside your normal sources for fanfics. Which is why I'm starting to think that if I put "written for the Jrockyaoi community" on the end notes of all fics posted to AO3 with a link to the LJ community it might just get the odd person to check it out. It's an advert, but a small un-intrusive one. Before I start doing this though I wanted to ask, is this a good idea? Please let me know your thoughts below.
