I'm back!
It would be an understatement to say that the trip to Italy was a long one: we covered over 2500km from here to the North of Italy and back in 9 days. (You can take a look at
our main itinerary here. This is without counting some 700km total from Athens to the port of Patras and from the port of Igoumenitsa back to Athens)
Didn't take as many photos as I'd like (that's in the hundreds :p), but I have
uploaded some on flickr. The highlight was, after our business was done (and we were stuck there because we couldn't change our ferry tickets to leave earlier) a visit to Urbino, a very nice historical town in the Marche area. There was a castle housing a large collection of renaissance paintings and I spent the best part of two hours gawking at them (and taking mental notes for my own pictures!). I could say this made up for all the rest of the trip, which was admittedly very exhausting.
Easter was spent in Anchialos, in a much more restful manner. :) On Saturday we went for a motorbike ride across Mt. Pelion. I loved it so much! Pelion was gorgeous: all green, with snow still lingering on the higher slopes. (Despite all the protective gear I was wearing, I caught a cold - but it was totally worth it! :p)
Also, here are the sketches I've produced over the last couple of weeks:
The characters from Tarkovsky's Stalker. What a compelling film! Not for most viewers, though. From top left, counter-clockwise: the Professor, Stalker, the Writer, Stalker's wife, and Monkey (their daughter).
Various scribbles from the trip (mostly done on the ferry to and from Ancona, where there was actually some spare time!)
Hopefully this will be a small gift to the girl portrayed! Also done on the ferry from Ancona.
Two random characters from last week. The second is from a crazy (hah, the novelty!) dream I had, about a girl in a kind of medieval setting who, after being slandered and in danger of being murdered, ran off to Palestine where she came to lead her own Bedouin tribe (?!). I think she came out much younger in this sketch. I like her stained eye-pits and defiant look, though!
Lastly, a pen drawing from life, showing the garden at G's parents' home. :)
