Who tries to schedule a job interview by certified mail?

I received a letter via certified mail for a supposed job interview today. I say "supposed" because the so-called employer mentioned in the letter that they repeatedly tried contacting me. Well, nobody's called my cell phone, and there was nothing in my email. This "employer" seems to be tied to a job that I applied for on Craigslist last Wednesday. Now I have to wonder if it's some kind of pyramid scheme. I'm thinking it's some kind of sales scam that targets people who applied for this "job" via the Craigslist posting, and uses the certified mail approach to trick potential applicants into thinking they're being specially considered for a job that doesn't exist. I don't know what else to call it. But I do know for a fact no employer contacts anyone for a job interview via certified mail (except for the federal government, perhaps). Who in the hell wastes $5.00 in postage to contact applicants? I've tried looking on the Net for something related to this scenario, but I can't find anything so far. Maybe I just have to chalk it up to some local guy being extra creepy creative with his scam pitch.

(Of course I threw the letter away...after I tore it up).
