Of Movies & Comic Books

Sigh. The sad thing about being a costumer is watching a movie and thinking, “Hey! That would be a fun costume to have...”

Although I do that with comic books, now, too. So many different Leia costumes to make, once I'm through with the movie ones. First two on my list are from the Infinities series: the Imperial dress from “A New Hope” and the Jedi garb from “Empires Strikes Back.” The nice thing about the Jedi garb is that it borrows from her Hoth outfit. The pants seem to be the bottom of her snowsuit, and the boots are the same. Yay for being able to reuse shoes!

I already bought boots for the Hoth costume, thanks to a link someone posted on the Angels of Iego forum. And a pair of boots for Padme's Geonosis arena outfit. All for a total of $36 with shipping, thanks to boots being on clearance this time of year.

I may throw together a quick version of the arena battle suit to wear to the Concerts in the Garden, if I don't dress out as Leia. (Lesa definitely has one night; I think I'll be battling with Lindy over the other.) Of course, if I did the Jedi, I'd still be Leia, even if only a few people know there the costume comes from.

Other non-Leia costuming options: Putting together a flight suit & flak vest to go as a Rebel pilot (I bought Todd's helmet, chest box, and data cylinders); assembling the “donut” kit I have, camo-dying the Swedish snow jacket Phyllis was so generous to give me, & going as a generic Endor trooper; or Padme's steelblue nightgown, since I have the pattern for it.

The “Hey!” movies I watched the last few days while Davin was off camping happened to be “Anastasia” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” I've always liked Anya's blue evening gown she wears to the Ballet Russe, and her plain blue dress looks like something comfortable to wear, although neither are as recognizable as her “princess” dresses. As for “Raiders,” I'm toying with the idea of either her Raven Bar outfit, or the lace dress from Rene Belloq (distressed or not). Too bad I'm closing at work the entire week Indy 4 comes out in theaters. Could always do it and be one of 700 Indiana Jones characters running around DragonCon this year... Or not.

Speaking of DragonCon, I need to figure out what I want to wear all weekend. I have a few ideas, but no definite plan. Considering the limited amount of sewing time I have, I should make that list soon.
