And reach for the heavens and hope for the future

The 19th has arrived, an important number and an important day. Well as important as they all have been since that fateful Tuesday evening two weeks ago. My American heart changed that day, my eyes too. I think the gods of joy and optimism gave some permanent rose tinting to the world, everything is bright and new.

When Jon Stewart broke the news that night you could almost feel the cosmic change that had taken place. It resonated in everything everywhere I went. Which as soon as Obama's acceptance speech ended was out. The urge to go, fly, MOVE was uncontrollable in the hearts of everyone I met that night at Mortimers, which seemed as good a place as any. When Anne and I pulled up there was a crowd of forty or more on the street corners of Franklin and Lyndale, one which never fully dissipated the entire time we were there.

There was cheering in the distance and electricity in the air, you just knew everywhere your went was a celebration, everyone was experiencing bliss. I've never taken part in an acid test but I imagine the vibe to be similar to the scene in Uptown that night. We drank Grainbelt and cheered at every passing car, hugged strangers and saw Horatio Alger in everyones eyes. Neal Cassady had possessed us all.

Later while cheering with a group on the corner Lee arrived in a impromptu parade of people he knew and some he didn't, their leader holding high a Obama lawn sign. We filtered back into Mortimers in this fashion, cheering gleefully and continued to celebrate in the best way we know how, with drinks. Every toast was to America or Obama, to hope and our futures that now seem so bright.
