What type of Fae are you? So I've been home for the weekend.
The two weeks of staff training are complete, and I'm more in love with camp than ever. The people on staff are some of the coolest I know. There are 2 people on staff from SU, Caitlin and Ed. I didn't really know them much this past year, but Caitlin was in my Thought class, so it's been great connecting with her these past two weeks.
I admire Linds more than ever. She somehow manages to be a bundle of sunshine, always cheerful and friendly, even when I know she may be feeling differently. It's interesting to see how we've both changed, but at the same time, I feel closer to her than before. She has my back and I have hers, hands down. Little stuff will never get in the way of what we have.
We did so much in such a short period of time, I can't believe the campers will be coming tomorrow. I'm excited but nervous. I did a ton of manual labor--shoveling rock for new paths, transporting mulch, cleaning sites and carrying heavy furniture. I've mastered fire-making, and surprisingly enough, I'm an amazing outdoor cook. I might not be so great with a stove or oven, but give me an open fire and I can fix you up some kick ass chilli, pasta, stir fry, oatmeal, banana boats, and other such outdoor meals. I'm rather proud of myself.
The other day we did the high ropes course...there's a giant ladder, a giant swing, and some other high in the sky elements we can attempt. Even though my pay is crap, sometimes I can't believe I get paid at all for all the fun I'm having at BCC. If the summer continues as it's been, I really want to work out a way to be there next summer too, despite my Australia trip.
Some notably cool experiences:
At the lake, there was a water snake. Brian did a totally Steve Irwin dive and caught it, throwing it out of the lakes to Dave, who caught it, and it bit his thumb which had just been stitched because he sliced it to the bone with his ridiculously uneccessarily large knife, so he threw the snake which smacked into Wayne's chest, and it almost took off his nipple.
The first friday, we had a staff dance. Camp dances are always cool, hands down. Afterwards, it was a clear night, so Russ put on Explosions in the Sky (this awesome band that plays amazing instrumental stuff) and we all laid out on the upper A field and watched the stars. Gorgeous. It was the perfect movie moment, complete with soundtrack.
This past thursday, we had a bonfire for the closing of staff training. It was huge, and we were all together, singing the "a part of you in me and a part of me in you will keep us all together one in love...." song, and it started to lightning, even though the sky was clear. It was a totally powerful moment. After the bonfire, I climbed onto the roof of the retreat center with Zach and Jason to watch the storm come in (maybe not the brightest idea, but so worth it). The lightning was all around us, flashing across the sky and illuminating the mountains. We stayed until the rain got to be too much to handle.
...dance like nobody's watching...love like you've never been hurt...
...live like it's heaven on earth...
