From a comment post I made in another's livejournal:
When I was a seminarian, I worked in close partnership for months with a rabbinical student. She and I shared hevruta study together, planned joint worship experiences, worked on my Hebrew, etc. I attended the shabbat services whenever she participated. Then Israel "responded" to Hezbollah activity in Lebanon with massively crippling attacks on civilian infrastructure (summer 2006). All I said was that Israel's response was "disproportionate," and suddenly - despite months of intimate inter-religious cooperation - I was an anti-semite.
That's what pisses me off: As soon as anyone points out that Israel is an artificially-created nation of Europeans that forcefully displaced the indigenous Arabic population, cries of antisemitism abound. It gives this aggressive nuclear power an international "get out of jail free" card with regards to its terrorist activities. And yes, I would definitely consider using *white phosphorus* on civilians, and bombing multiple UN buildings terrorist activities. 1,200 versus 13 dead? Where is the "proportionate response" in that?

- Call President-Elect Obama's Transition Team at 202-540-3000 and request an immediate cease-fire, end to the blockade, and immediate withdrawal from Gaza.
- Call your Representative and ask how they voted on House Resolution 34 which passed overwhelmingly in the House last Friday (390 yes, 5 no, and 22 present). The resolution "recognizes Israel's right to defend itself" and "reaffirms the United States' strong support for Israel."
- Call your Senator and assert your disagreement with their unanimous vote on last week's Senate Resolution 10 "recognizing the right of Israel to defend itself against attacks from Gaza and reaffirming the United States' strong support for Israel in its battle with Hamas."
