Discipline

Discipline is a way through which you can get out of the binds of predators of this world. It isn't asceticism, but a choice of action - doing exactly that, which you know must be done, and for doing which you have absolutely no desire or willingness, in fact for doing which you feel deep resistance and distaste.

You know exactly what needs to be done, and in doing that exact thing there is something that repels you. To avoid doing it, to forget about it's mere existence you are doing a million of trivial rubbish things that appeal to you. And yet, doing them you don't avoid enslavement, but exactly opposite - you become prey for the predators, who offer you those cravings, so that you would fuel them with your attention and energy, and when this aspect of yours gets bigger they savor it (your energy directed towards it), and after that you are left with a feeling of emptiness, and a dusty toy in your hand which you toss away and direct your attention towards some other rubbish offered you by the predators, all your life dancing like a puppet until you are exhausted and die.

The way out of this swamp lies in noticing what you need to do in this exact moment, doing which fills you with dislike and aversion. The thing that is most awful is the one that needs to be done in first place. The feeling of distaste is not yours - it's a feeling of the predator who knows there is no food for him in it. The feeling of distaste disperse when you get through, and is replaced by feeling of energy, excitement and happiness. It is because the energy is inedible for the predator and becomes available to you.

Brian Tracy strikes home with his book "Eat that frog".
