One of my campers went home today because she was so incredibly homesick that her family decided enough was enough. It's kind of a huge relief because she took up a TON of time and energy, but at the same time it sucks that we put so much effort into her and she hardly even lasted a week. I'm gonna miss her.
Now that the girls have classes most of the day, I have a lot more free time to practice, sit by the lake, unwind, etc. By an interesting turn of events, I ended up with an amazing teacher here. Her name is
Dylana Jenson , and I had no idea how amazing she was because there was no biography for her on the Interlochen website, but I found all this neat stuff when I googled her. Besides the fact that she's really nice, I'm most excited about 2 things- 1) She studied with NATHAN MILSTEIN, one of my favorite soloists who I've always wanted to soudn more like, and 2) It turns out she is good friends with Mr. G ("Oooh you take from Herrbie!!") and thinks he's a great teacher and a lovely violinist! I have my first lesson with her tomorrow. She's only here for 3 weeks, so I'll have to figure something else out after that.
I feel pretty isolated from the non Interlochen world. Not that I've been going online that much, but most of the time I'm on, I don't even bother signing on AIM because practically everyone's away and nobody ever talks to me. It's...different.
I'm getting really close to my campers. Sometimes I forget they're 13 years old, we have so much fun.
I saw Mark O'Connor and Appalacian Trio last night for free. Amaaaazing! I <3 Mark.
