Sometimes life is just not fair

I wanted to get some laundry caught up while I'm on light duty, but my dryer suddenly decided to crap out on me, it won't dry the laundry, it just keeps spinning all day, making noises, but not doing the job. And yes, the pilot light is lit. So I know for a fact that the section of duct going through the wall is clogged again, and it's time to get ( Read more... )

So sorry to hear about the tragic loss of your dryer stevegrinetook June 16 2009, 20:29:05 UTC
I'd send you a condolence bouquet, except the pollen would probably clog it up even worse.;-P

Seriously, I had the same thing happen awhile back, when my son was about 3, and I'd just thrown my back out of whack playing softball, so I couldn't get in there at it, either. And my son came running to the laundry room with his little plastic tools, wanting to help, and I felt so bad about not being able to let him. And Merry was real pregnant with our daughter, and in no shape to help me out either. So I ended up calling on a friend who had a son who was like 12, which is about the perfect age for something like that, still small enough to fit into tight spaces, but big enough to be able to handle a few hand tools without putting their eye out or something. And I paid the kid like 10 bucks for his trouble, which of course made him really proud, and his dad really happy, because he said the kid socked that money away in his little bank and refused to spend it because it was special, because he earned it doing a grown man's work, LOL. Yeah, a grown man who's the size of a dwarf, maybe, but seriously, I did understand.

So if you've got a friend or neighbor with a kid about that age who would be small enough to get in and help you out, you might want to think about looking into that. And if all goes right, you could end up helping a friend teach his kid a good work ethic. But if not, you may be stuck going to the laundramat for about the next 6 weeks before you can get in there without pain.

Condolence bouquet, LOL. I oughta whack you upside the head with a condolence bouquet, wise ass.

Seriously, though, that's a great idea, and I have got a couple of friends with kids who just might be able to handle that one. I'll have to see what I can do about getting one of them over here. Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion.
