What's there to be GLAAD about?

Apr 19, 2006 21:12

Sitting here watching a bit of the GLAAD awards, mulling over some recent events:

I was supposed to watch TV with a couple of friends of mine.
The program starts at 8:00.
I was at the designated location by 7:55.
I waited until shortly after 8:00.
Not wanting to miss anymore of the show, I went home.
I received a call on the way and was informed that they were now home and ready.
Not wanting to miss anymore of the show than I already had, I continued home.
Thinking on it, this was supposed to be more about visiting with friends I haven't seen in a while than about not missing a show.

Mike calls me.
The end of my show is on.
It comes back from commercial.
I hastily hang up with him so that I don't miss a moment.
This show should NOT be more important than my baby!
And it's not...but if I don't see it now, I'll never see it, and it would thwart all of my efforts. I might as well just disconnect the cable (ok, a bit dramatic).
But is it ever ok to put a few minutes of visual pleasure ahead of the most imporant person in my life, or ahead of friends?
Haveing to think about it makes me ashamed of myself. I will try harder.
I'm sorry.
Next time will be different (makes me wish I had my TiVo again....then I wouldn't have to choose...but that's besides the point).
