The last episode of the Pacific guys
Feeling better thanks to some Ice Cream and the new/last Pacific episode
I honestly think that even with the fandom wank, it was the most fun I've had in a fandom in a good long while. And I honestly feel that in the end comparing what I like better Band of Brothers or it just doesn't cut it. I really like both as separate entities.
That aside, oh jesus EPISODE I loved it sfm. I honestly can't pin down all I liked about it--but just the little things:
◈ Leckie's return and the Paratrooper cabbie. Beautiful exchange and I just went "oh, my heart."
◈ On that note, I love Leckie's mom. And Vera. I just this whole exchange of Leckie adapting and winning back his job, and the girl of his dreams was too cute for words. I loved how it played off. That was just so beautifully handled. I love the sass this family shares.
◈ Lena. I have such a girl!crush on her, because at first I was all "what a bitch" but now I'm all 'YOU fucking GO girl'. The meeting between her and Basilone's family was just so...bittersweet. I just about started tearing up as soon as she handed over the medal. The part about his brother translating the Italian for her just added to my pain. Oh Lena, you were such a wonderful person.
◈ Sledge's group's varied goodbyes. True to confusing form, Mac is still a douchebag but with a heart of...something. I can't sum up how much I loved Snafu in these final parts. And Burgin getting off the train and then Snafu says thank you. Snafu and Sledge sharing a look and of course, Snafu hitting on girls and totally not getting he's doing it wrong.
◈ The real getter though? Snafu quitely looking over Sledge's sleeping form before walking away with a smile. He almost pauses and turns but then thinks better of it and fades away.
◈ Sledge returning to Mobile and Sid. All of it, I will just sum it up here. All of it--I loved how Sid tries to convey how life moves on and how even though they fought in the same war, Sledge's brother has NO idea what he's been through. And oh god, the PTSD and how Sledge eventually turns to studying biology. It just. Oh. My heart, she is so elated/depressed.
I'm going to miss this fandom, I hope it retains a large/active loyal fandom like it's predecessor did, because I'm so not ready for everything to be over. I've got tons of fics lined up I need to get worked on but, that Sledge coming back and Snafu meeting his family that leafie_phoenix and I were discussing needs to take priority. Like totes now.
