...Why does all fandom seem to hate the one character I admire with a burning passion?

I just, I don't even.

I understand not agreeing with a character fine, but...so far, I haven't really found that many reasons for Webster to be practically ignored the way he does. I just...god, it's ALMOST AS BAD AS GUNDAM WING FANDOM AND RELENA BASHING ( Read more... )

webster, public, ignore this, brb dying, o fandoms, public for commentary, wtf, russian, band of brothers

Mmm, well I admit, I can/do sometimes take Eion Bailey's portrayal for granted and it's all in good fun, but even then, I feel...I don't know, a bit weird about it. Even when reading AUs I have to just, keep reminding myself it's not the guy I just read about a few minutes ago--so yeah, I can see how tunnel-vision could occur pretty much, but you have a very excellent point.

I know, right? I think really--it's just hard to explain Webster's kind of contradictory nature towards the Army and well, sometimes himself. I remember a forum describing him as someone who "would hang with the guys" and yet at the same time kept to himself. It looks like a lot of the time, Webster is caught between his principles and what goes on around him--something that I think, the series kind of should have emphasized a bit more.

Like...Webster's hatred towards the Germans because of what he SAW compared to...the speech he yells as the Germans walk away in BoB. That...that didn't translate well. Though I could gripe like many do and I'm not that far into his book, the scene felt awkward and placed--it probably would've made a lot more sense...if they'd put it after the Concentration camp...

...wow self, way to read too into something and come out...lost. Sorry this made more sense in my head and got lost in translation dfsfsdf
