Am I the only one kind of disgusted that not nearly enough noise gets made about the one thing about June 6 that REALLY matters?

Don't forget June 6, 1523, when Gustav Vasa was elected King of Sweden, marking the end of the Kalmar Union.

A momentous event in northern european history indeed. I've always been of the opinion that no Swedish Superpower = no Russian reforms under Peter the Great = totally weird alternate history. Alternate history is fun.

I once heard of a novel where the Spanish Armada managed to subdue the British navy and Spain took over the UK, and then Will Shakespeare became like a 1600's British version of Thomas Paine. Doesn't that sound like fun?

I like how the king is elected in Sweden.

Sweden's had an interesting history in terms of royalty. The current ruling house of Bernadotte is actually french in origin and they got picked 'cus of the original COunt Bernadotte's favoured position in Napoleon's army.

Gotta love such a pure meritocracy.

Meritocracies are so damn rare. Funny how the only thing that makes sense nobody seems to get around to doing.

June 6th, 1982: Shanti Harris was born! What would the world be like without her?

A much less bright and cheery place.

This anonymous reply was left by one of two people. Now I'm all curious as to which it might be.
