This is half weird. Half sad. The choice is yours.
As a publicity stunt for the December 13 DVD release of 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, Universal is hosting a publicity stunt involving chest hair and its removal. A centerpiece scene of the film has Steve Carell’s character undergoing a wax treatment to remove his overgrown chest hair in order to attract a date. As documented on a DVD bonus featurette, Carell actually underwent the painful process for the camera, bleeding for his art. Now Universal wants more men to do the same in events across the country, with a major prize offered to the man sacrificing the most chest hair. We haven’t heard what that prize will be, but we’re betting it’s not an original 1968 Aquaman action figure.
On December 12 in Los Angeles, and on December 13 in 16 other cities across the USA, chest waxing contests will be taking place at spas and radio stations. Aveda products and Burke Williams Spas will sponsor the events in association with Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
