I also agree full heartedly. They tried to cut the funds for district 81 marching bands last year. Actually, they already had. But our drum major did what you are doing and got it back. The person he made it happen with was the superintendent (I can't remember his name). He started by writing letters, but he even set up a meeting with the guy to talk to him about it. They had budget meetings that our band parent group would go to and they would have students and parents talk about how important the band was and stuff. If you want to change it, you have to go to the people that control the budget and have the power to change it.
I hope you can fix this. It's all because of the freaking WASL. I hate that test with a passion. It is the absolute focus of the district now and everythign is designed to prepare you for the WASL or help kids that failed the WASL in 7th grade or to make sure that you pass the WASL. WASL WASL WASL!!!! I want to kill it. What a waste of money. Most of the stuff they do to try to help doesn't even come close to helping. The kind of kids that fail the WASL are the kind that will not pass no matter what you do because they just plain do not care and do not want to invest the time into school.
Grrr. It makes me so angry. I want to kill standardized tests. SAT and ACT are all right because they are nationwide, but state tests are a crock and they are way too much of our focus. Man, if I keep talking I will punch someone, so I better stop. I hope you can get this back Sarah. Musicals are one of the most amazing things in drama. Let me know if you need anything.
