001 | New Bark Town | (Audio/Video)

[There is some garbled noise, puntuated occasionally by the sound of things clicking and papers fluttering.]

Hmm...it appears this device has some sort of recording function...Testing, testing...

[The feed goes silent, as though someone had stopped and checked to see if the recording had worked. After a little while it turns back on, its owner ( Read more... )

It seems that you already have a grasp of the basic idea. New Bark Town is the town you "arrive" in, from whatever world you came from before. As for the Pokemon, it's there to help you win battles and obtain badges from the Gym Leaders in other cities across Johto. Down Route 29 would be the next city, Cherrygrove.

Any other questions? [Sad with slight sarcasm, since ahaha, yeah. There will be.]

I see. would you perchance know why exactly I am here, or what purpose there is to winning battles and obtaining badges? Do they do anything?

Actually, let's back up a bit. "Whatever world"? Where and when in the larger context is this place?

[He says this with skepticism because well, Clive's made up alternate world stuff up to fool others, wouldn't surprise him if this was an elaborate joke on him.]

There's apparently some kind of rumor that if you defeat all the Gym Leaders, you can return to your world. The purpose of the battles is to make your Pokemon stronger so they can defeat those leaders.

No one is really sure where this place is, but it's definitely not on the same planet as wherever you came from. I take it you cam from Earth?

A rumor then, I see. May I ask from whom you've heard this from?

Yes, I am. From London, actually. Where else would I be from? Do you mean to say that this is the future and humans have colonized the other planets?

A few different people. I can't remember who exactly.

[Huh. Someone else from London.] Well, some people I've spoken with aren't from Earth. And if they are, they're from alternate Earths.

I doubt this could be the future, since the dates on our Pokegears say the same date as back home. No, I'm afraid this is a completely different world that we were somehow teleported to.

Also, do you happen to know someone named Luke? Or Professor Layton, by any chance?

[Oh well. Guess I have to investigate this on my own then.]

Alternate Earths...[he's sort of learned to stop this line of questioning]

Well, it's as you say the date is the same. But wouldn't it be possible to merely have set the date to a specific time as you would a pocket watch? This device is futuristic looking to me, but I imagine that it could be tampered with by someone with enough skill...

Why yes, I know lots of Lukes, actually...[It's kind of a common name, actually...] Hold on a moment. You are acquainted with Professor Layton?

It may be futuristic to you, but I've seen a device quite similar to it back in Japan. The time frames on the Pokegear and on calenders back on my world match up.

[Aha. She was right.] Yes, I am. I take it you know them both?

[Well, that country's gotten a lot more futuristic since Clive's last heard of it.] Really now? I had no idea Japan was on the forefront of such innovations.

[yes, indeed she was.] If you mean the professor's assistant, Luke Triton, then yes, I know them both. Perchance, are they also in this general locality?

[AHAHA you have no idea.] What year was it before you arrived in Johto?

[Hmmm.....she can't tell if he's a good or bad guy. And she's not gonna risk it.] Do you know them very well?

[nope, no idea at all.] 1921. Why do you ask--oh. I suppose the Japan you're from isn't exactly the one I'm familiar with, is it? Still I guess I shouldn't too surprised, given the circumstances.

[Either way, Clive doesn't really know what to do with them if he does find them] You could say that. At least, I've known the Professor since I was young.

Ah, I see. Where I'm from, the year was 2011. That would explain the differences. People come from many different time periods here.

[Can't blame him.] Ah, I see. Then I suppose he'll try to contact you when he sees that you've arrived.

So it seems. It appears that there is some element of time travel involved.

It appears quite plausible, I must say. [oh boy...he hopes Layton and Luke are at least in the ages he recognizes] Thank you for your assistance, Miss...?

I wouldn't exactly say time travel, but some odd element is involved.

Well, I wish you luck in finding them.

Ah, my name is Shiho. [Of course. Only the first name.]

Thank you, and good day to you as well, Shiho. [nope, nothing suspicious here. Who offers their full name to random passerbys anyway? :p]
